Meet the Women of Talin!
These amazing women are the power behind the project!
Anush, who self-taught herself to crochet is the project manager of the Talin Dolls Project. As a mother of two boys whose husband in Russia looking for work, the income provided from these collector’s items are easing some of the financial burden. Her family, originally from Moush, is proud she is helping to preserve some of their rich culture.
Her favorite doll: Sebastia
Margarit, a mother of two boys, sees the Talin Dolls project as more than a job, but as an investment for her children’s future. This perspective was passed down to her by her grandmother who taught her many things growing up, including the craft of crochet, in their village of Lower Bazmaberd.
From the Sasoun region it is no surprise that her favorite doll is also from here.
Ani has been working with the Talin Dolls project since it began. Born and raised in Araks village, Armavir region, she moved to Talin with her husband after getting married. They live with their son, daughter, in-laws and her brother in-laws family. It is a full house! Ani is thankful the skill she learned from her grandmother now helps her meet her family's needs.
Her favorite doll: Vaspourakan.
Gayane has been working for many years as an English translator with organizations all over the world to help benefit the Talin region in Armenia. She is continuing her efforts with the TWRC (Talin Women’s
Resource Center Development Foundation) which she founded in May 2012. At just 33, with her bubbly personality and persistent spirit, she is a leader in her community and an integral part in this project.
Her favorite doll: Van
Karine, was born in the village of Katnaghbyur just outside of Talin. There her mother taught her to crochet and about their roots in Sasoun. She has since gotten married and moved to Talin, where she and her husband now live with their two daughters. Though working on the project is great, she says the best part is how her work shares the culture of Armenia.
